Milling
Fer Metal has been involved in milling for more than 50 years, we are therefore able to guarantee important experience in this type of machining. Our aim is to offer the customer punctual and fast deliveries as well as the required quality, also thanks to the use of innovative technologies such as the use of CAD/CAM software, recent and high-performance numerical controls (CNC), and latest generation tools.
Workpiece size
With our machine tools, we machine components for small and medium-sized industrial machinery, components for the automotive sector, components for carpentry, and hot-formed steel components. Our CNC milling machines have a working range from 1000x450mm to a maximum of 1600x600mm, the maximum workpiece weight is around 300kg.
Processing batches range from a minimum of 20 pieces to a maximum of 2000 pieces depending on the complexity of the parts.
Milling processes
Milling operations include rough machining (e.g. facing, contouring) and finishing operations (e.g. drilling, threading, reaming) of the workpiece. Through the technical drawing or 3D model, the required machining operations are extrapolated.
Roughing
Rough machining is the set of initial machining operations necessary to remove material from the workpiece in its raw state, and does not require great precision. This phase generally involves the removal of the greatest quantity of material, it is therefore essential to set it up in such a way as to optimise the operation, for example through the use of high feed tools or high removal cycles with the support of CAM software to work out the best machining strategy. This allows us to reduce the total machining time itself.
Finishing
Finishing machining is the set of final machining operations necessary to obtain the required roughness and the specified tolerances. This phase is essential to meet the required quality.
Our machining centres are capable of meeting tolerances of +/-0.02 mm.
